TIPS FOR WINTER SKIN CARE IN OUR AUSTRALIAN ALPS
Winter at high altitude can be harsh on our skin. We reached out to Belinda Pendergast at Spoilt Beauty Spot in Jindabyne for her expert opinion on taking care of your skin in the Australian Alps:
Apart from applying a rich protective moisturiser day and night, there are a few extra steps we can take to hydrate our skin during the harsh winter months.
A serum may be applied under your moisturiser for a little hydration and vitamin boost. Perhaps you could add a few drops of a beautiful argan oil to your moisturiser or foundation for extra hydration and glow. There are also lush hydrating masks that you could add to your weekly routine to rehydrate your skin in the winter months.
Here are some other tips I recommend to keep nourished, hydrated and glowing this winter.
Dry skin is the key indicator of dehydration, get your hydration before your skin needs it.
It is so easy to have a few extra coffees throughout the day instead of the water we normally drink in the warmer months. Try to add a warm lemon infused water. Green tea is so good for your skin as it’s loaded with anti-oxidants. My all time favourite winter tea infusion is a pot of tea with ½ an orange chopped up, a stick of cinnamon and 5 cardamom pods. This is a delightful tea and is a pleasure to drink throughout the day to keep your h2o up.
There is no use loading heavy moisturisers onto your skin if all they are doing is binding your dead dry skin together. Get those dead cells off, then hydrate your fresh new cells.
To reveal your beautiful healthy skin, exfoliate. This will also promote the growth of new skin cells.
For your body try dry skin brushing, body scrubs and my favourite, the Rifti mit, followed by Saya skincare’s argan oil. I find this to be the perfect combination to hydrate dry body skin.
This is the perfect fix for your face in the winter months. Spoil yourself with a microdermabrasion facial.
This treatment will gentle exfoliate your skin, while preparing it to infuse serums and moisture more effectively.
More benefits of a micro facial include:
– reduction of fine lines and wrinkles
– refining of skin texture
– stimulates circulation and cell renewal
– improvement of skin conditions such as clogged pores, acne, scarring and sun damage.
Most importantly this facial will brighten a dull complexion and helps products absorb better; the perfect prescription for winter skin.
SPF everyday, rain, hail, snow and shine! The sun reflects off the snow and can be potent on your skin. Make sure SPF is applied every day for ultimate skin protection whether your up the hill getting a few laps, tobogganing or out back country. Apply in the morning and regularly throughout the day.
That will provide a quick fix for dry skin.
